The first boots have been weared by the Vikings and the Celts.  These ancestors  of  todays boots were made of leather scraps which were wraped  round the feet.  The actual boot shape have been developed in the middle age. Different fashion trends  modified the upper lenght. Important for the comfort is the perfect fit  of the boot  at the calf.  This provides additional protection and offers thermal regulation.
